My Favorite Brands / Types Of Crochet Hooks

My mom taught me to crochet when I was just about 7 years old. I loved to make accessories and clothing for my dolls and little sister to wear. And although I dearly love to knit, I have to admit that between the two (knitting and crocheting), crochet is still my favorite form of fiber art. It just takes me back, you know? ;-)

My favorite brands of hooks include Susan Bates and Boye. They are the brands I was taught to crochet with, and thus I find them the easiest to work with. The Susan Bates brand in particular I find helps to smoothly glide the working yarn through the stitches.

Plastic crochet hooks are my tool of choice to work with chunky yarn, as they are lightweight and smooth (this helps with speedy crocheting).

For worsted or "regular" weight  yarn, I like to use metal crochet hooks metal hooks (again for speed purposes), and I also like the way it feels in my hand. Plastic hooks are my second favorite for crocheting with ww yarn.

In addition to plastic and metal, I also LOVE my wood hooks! My favorite wooden hook would definitely have to be the personalized one there in the pic that my sister got for my birthday one year. (On Etsy) :-D Wooden hooks have a little more "resistance" to them when you crochet (thus, slower crocheting), but is very relaxing to use. If you are not worried about making your project in record time ;-D, then I would definitely say to go for it & buy yourself a wooden hook. That giant one in the picture there is from Hobby Lobby and is presently my favorite jumbo wooden hook.

...And those are my favorite types / brands of crochet hooks to use!

Please keep in mind that these may not be the knitting needles best suited for every knitter, but are merely the brands / types I like best for my own particular knitting style.

3. Where to Buy

You can really buy knitting needles just about anywhere, but a few of my favorite places include: Amazon.com, Etsy.com, JoAnn's Craft Store, Michael's Craft Store, and Hobby Lobby. You can also find select brands / types of knitting needles at Walmart.

My Favorite Brands / Types of Knitting Needles (For Beginners & Personal Favorites)

This blog post is for all you maker's who have asked (especially on Instagram), what my favorite type / brands of knitting needles are. Here we go! :-D

1. Favorite Brands / Types of Knitting Needles for Beginner Knitters

My favorite type of knitting needles for beginner knitters would definitely have to be made out of bamboo or wood. The texture of these type of needles is perfect (in my opinion) because they give the yarn more "resistance", and thus the yarn will not slide so easily off the needles, when practicing all those new knit stitches. ;-D

Don't get me wrong, I do love my plastic & metal knitting needles, but for beginner knitters who need to take each new stitch slowly and carefully, they may be just a bit to "slippery".

My favorite brand of bamboo knitting needles is the Clover Takumi Brand. You can also find wooden / bamboo knitting needles in bulk on Amazon.com and Etsy.com as well. These bulk buys are perfect for beginners, because you will be able to get multiple sizes to practice with, at a quarter of the price of buying needles individually at the craft store. ;-D

2. My Personal Favorite Types of Knitting Needles

Circular Knitting Needles: Clover Takumi Brand(Bamboo)

Straight Knitting Needles: Clover Takumi brand(Bamboo), Loops and Threads brand (Plastic), Wool And The Gang Brand (Wooden), Lions Brand (Plastic), BettaKnit Brand (Wooden)

Double Pointed Knitting Needles: Clover Takumi brand(Bamboo)

...and those are my favs! ;-D
